Fall Con

posted Aug 20, 2014, 10:49 AM by Jpdysc Communications

Fall is on its way from the grueling heat of summer.
Come join the JPD community for a great con themed around leadership. Fall con is just the right time to chill out and learn some new steps and skills that will help you to be a Fuutuure leader of the world.
Fall Con will be hosted at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Harford county, 2515 Churchville Rd, Churchville, MD from 8pm Friday October 24 to 8am Sunday October 26.

Registration forms are linked below OR the Online Con Registration Online link (to the left of the page). If you want to print out a form, please fill it out and mail it to our Registrar, Gabi Johnson, whose mailing address in listed on the form. If you want to do the online form, please fill it out, print out the digital copy of the registration form, and mail it to Gabi Johnson by the deadline listed on the form.
Notice: Gabi Johnson is our new elected Registrar. Her email and mailing address information are listed on the registration form.

Newbie Advice:    The Con environment is an amazing and great experience, but Newbies must be prepared for a unique atmosphere.  Oldbies, who have been a part of more than 2 Cons, know the playing field very well. An appropriate analogy is a Junior leading a Freshman in high school. Freshmen can be overwhelmed with homework and stress. Juniors know how everything works, and can give encouraging advice that will help Freshmen enjoy their high school experience.  DYSC members are excellent advisers that will be more than happy to teach Newbies how to enjoy Con to the fullest.

If you have any questions, feel free to email Kellen Randall, the Communications Coordinator, at kellen.randall@gmail.com

Youth & Advisor Chaplain Training

posted Nov 13, 2013, 6:48 PM by JPDYSC Web

WHEN:   December 6th & 7th, 7pm to 6pm, 2013
WHERE:  Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville, Maryland

 Do you know someone who would be a good chaplain?
 Every youth group should have at least one youth and adult chaplain

Chaplain training is a small working conference style training designed for youth and advisors to gain skills centered on meeting needs of effectively listening, affirming and emotionally supporting attendees at youth events. These trained individuals are people who will help manage crises and help ensure a healthy, safe and supportive environment. Chaplains can bring spiritual resources and support to the community, but leading worship is not their primary role.

Training will focus on the following areas:
 Understanding Confidentiality – When to keep it and when to break it for safety concerns
 Maintaining appropriate personal boundaries – physical, emotional…
 Perceiving and responding to the needs of the conference/group community as a whole
 Developing communication skills: active listening, non-verbal, etc…
 Being an empathetic listener, understanding and accepting different emotional situations
 Working as a team with other chaplains, worship planners, and conference staff
 Legal and ethical considerations to ensure a safe and healthy conference community
 Responsible, intentional and culturally appropriate use of worship materials

Registration forms will be forthcoming

Important: Not just anyone can go! Send chaplain nominations to Andrew Mertz at andrew@jpduua.org with the nominee's name and contact information. You will then be contacted and eventually cleared to attend.

Do you know someone who would be good at this? Let us know his/her name and contact information.
We are looking for a range of applicants who contribute to their youth communities, including CONs.
